Drawing on the inspiration of nature, Promote Preston is launching a new art event to promote the Preston River Valley.
Art…Naturally will be held on November 3 & 4 along the Preston River Valley. Twenty two textile artists from the broader Bunbury Geographe region have entered pieces into the ‘For the Love of Nature’ textile fine art competition. This exhibition will be judged by highly regarded Noongar artist, Sandra Hill and renown Ferguson Valley artist Jan Hart. The Preston River Valley is a beautiful part of the South West, with forests of jarrah and marri right on our doorstep. This made it easy to chose ‘for the love of nature’ as our theme. The exhibition of textile fine art will be on show at the Yabberup Hall from 10am – 4pm on Saturday the 3rd and from 10 – 2pm on Sunday the 4th, with winners of the competition being gifted produce from our local wine and food producers. The Preston River Valley community is both a creative and supportive one. We are fortunate to have a collection of talented artists working in different media who are opening their studio’s, some for the first time, for the art trail which travels along the Donnybrook-Boyup Brook Rd. Felt artist and jewellery designer Sally Young will be opening her beautiful strawbale studio in Mumballup. Just up the road is Cynthia Dix a painter, glass and mixed media artist. Mixed media artist, printmaker and potter is Janelle Barnes, right next to the Yabberup Hall. Potter Marilyn Dreaver’s studio is first cab off the rank, if you are coming from Donnybrook. She is on Sandhill’s Road.’ Fernbank’ is our open garden with over 275 roses and makes up the final part of our Art…Naturally trail and will be a great place to stop and relax along the way. Refreshments and food will be on offer at many of the studios and at Fernbank. At the Yabberup Hall there will be yummy wraps available on Saturday and the famous Kentucky smoker will fire up on Sunday.
